Called To Serve

This last Wednesday the 16th, Tyler received his mission call in the mail! After what seemed to be the longest two weeks of his life, he went out to the mailbox at around 2 o'clock and to his excitement he found that large white envelope addressed to him from Salt Lake City. He let us know that he had got the envelope and waited for his sister Heather, brother Brett, and a few friends to show up to the opening get-together in his apartment's kitchen.

Waiting to open the call

Finally after everyone had put in their guesses of where his call would be to, and after getting various family members on skype and speakerphone the highly anticipated moment had finally arrived. With shaking hands he tore open the envelope, pulled out the booklet with the mission call letter underneath so he could read line-by-line. He took a deep breath and began reading,

"Dear Elder Archibald: You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints." paused and his eyes got wide, "You are assigned to labor in the Honduras Comayagüela Mission."

We are so excited for Tyler. He reports to the Provo Missionary Training Center on June 29th and will prepare to preach the gospel in the Spanish language.

Brett (left) served in the Mexico, Mexico City West mission.

Judd Ireland (middle) served in Guatemala.

Finishing the Papers

Tyler began working on his mission papers towards the end of 2010. He wanted to submit them early February 2011 so he could have his call as soon as possible before his June 1st availability date. After a few months of getting dental work, doctor appointments, immunizations, filling out paper work, and having Bishop/ Stake President interviews he was finally able to submit his papers on February 2nd...and then the wait began!
